FlexJobs | Find A Better Way To Work

Today’s topic delves into the digital world. It’s essential to remember that recruiters and hiring managers rely heavily on digital tools to find and vet candidates. That’s why it’s important to take time early on in your job search and update your digital profile(s) and make sure you are presenting yourself in the best possible way.

If you’ve got a social media footprint, you definitely want to review everything that’s posted. Have you made comments that could be considered controversial? What about the pictures that are posted? Look through your digital footprint with a lens of “If I were to consider hiring this person, would I have anything to be concerned about?”

Once you take stock and make changes, the next step is to ensure you position yourself as an expert in your field - really, an expert in the job you want to LAND.

Does your LinkedIn profile have the right keywords that are used in the job postings for the jobs you want to apply for? Is your profile picture appropriate for the work you are trying to land? What about the experience section? Have you used the right keywords to show you have the skills required to do the job you are applying for?

Did you know you can have up to 50 skills? Have you optimized this section on LinkedIn? This is important to show employers the skills you have, as well as for the algorithms of the site.

Finally, are there former coworkers or clients who may be willing to write you a recommendation? Have you given any recommendations yourself?

Taking time to update each of these things will help make you more visible to the people hiring for the roles you are seeking. Think of your social profiles as digital proof of what you’ve done in your career and make sure that it represents you well!
